This blog is for people living in foreign countries and struggling being with difficulties. And of course, for me as the log that I could see myself after years.
Now, about to reach the time where 3 years later covid-19 is spreading in the world. At the time of covid-19, over 1000 volunteers of Japanese International Cooperation Agency(JICA) were being dispatched to each country and forced to return to Japan. I was one of them.
I was a physical therapist working at a private hospital in Mongolia, mainly treating patients with neuro diseases.
Before being dispatched, we got a description of what is JICA volunteers that show us the demands recipients want us to meet. In my case, teaching them and their patients, how to do exercises when they got home after inpatients. And also doing physical therapy with colleagues. If we have a chance to hold some seminar showing Japanese way, that is included as our duties.
During the first few months of being dispatched to Mongolia, I spent most of my time observing the situation in Mongolian hospitals to catch their real demands. Often time we hit a problem that is already changed demands because dealing with the contract between JICA and the recipients to despatch us to them takes a long time. In addition, that contract is official which makes recipients overact more than usual. My site was unable to out of JICA volunteer’s usual problem.
That was more than worse. After my observation for a few months, there is no physical therapist in this hospital. I mentioned above that teaching was one of my duties as a JICA volunteer, not a labor of theirs.
That situation made a much of stress on me. I had no one to share the way of physical therapy to inspire the medical situation Mongolia has, even though I had to take risks the patients get medical events possibly.
